Analipsis Hersonisos Crete Greece The history of our village begins from the season of Turkish domination, That season Turkish 'Agades' lived in this place and they had some stone houses where they lived few months of the year. The name of the small stone village was calling "Svouros", and according to old people, it had emanated from the Turkish 'Aga' who lived at this area that time (1800) . At the period of decline of Turkish Possession in Crete, enough residents of Lasithi Plateau which got used they are moved the winter in the flat regions in order to feed their animals, began to buy the stone houses from fearful Turks which sensed the end of their present in Crete after so many years. Their main occupation was the sheep-farming ,the picking of the olives and the production of cereals as barley and wheat. Thus from then and each winter many sheepers with their families they passed the wintry months in this region because at Lasithi the winder was very hard. The small village that had been created started to grow ,the people of Lasithi Plateau transported the culture and their traditions (even only for half year), and thus it was erected also the church, symbol of religion that it was inside the hearts of the poor villagers. The name that was given in this small church was "ANALIPSI" and from the stone sign that exists above the old door is advisable that it was establish in 1896. Enough years passed and everything was remained the same, the winter some persons were living at the village in order to spent the winter time at the spring they were going back at the Plateau of Lasithi .It is reported in the inventory of Greek population in 1920 the small village 'Svouros' had only 68 residents, These roughly in general lines was continued until the war of ' 40. At ' German possession the residents did not face serious problems as killings etc, apart from the hunger and the misery that existed all over the island. Many people say that in this contributed the rescue and the care of a German Commander ,Specifically he was one from the lot of parachutists that where dropped at the beach and at the area of "Aposelemi" river. The story says that he fell somewhere hard and he was injured at his leg..many old people say that he had been perplexed with his parachute, so a villager that was found in his field he saw the parachute , then he run at the village and call some men to kill him because he was a fear for them. As soon as they reached in the place where found itself the German, they made a plan. One man would pull the parachute and the other with a hard timber would strike the German. They pulled him and hardly they were ready to strike him, he was crying and begging them in the German Dialect afraid for his life! That moment the villagers confused , one looked at the other with query ,as they had in front of them the picture of the conqueror, full with tears and sadness. As you have understand, the villagers after this took him and with the consideration of the 'love to the neighbor',they made good meals in their poor lodgings giving "goat milk". From the time he left,he never did not forget those that saved his life, as well as their village, did not destroyed as other villages ,old men report that.That was only a small story, that recounted to us by an old villager, and sure there exists a lot of them engraved in the memory of few residents that are still in life but we hope with our help to accomplish to record more before the time clear them. Thus afterwards the war and at the years from '60 to '70 population began to increase itself with slow but stable rhythms ,the village that time belong to the community of Hersonissos. The name of course remained the same from old years "Svouros". The decade of '70 new name for the village came to replace the old stone village ,the church that henceforth gave her name in the small village that called Analipsi. Analipsi in English means the 'Leaving of CHRIST from the Earth'. The next years were station in the growth and the economic growing of the village, because there where many productions of carnations but also other flowers .We can characterize in few words this period as "Golden season of Carnation at Analipsi", after a lot of persons mainly farmers had better conditions of survival and also the place it became henceforth who productive thing that prompted the residents in their establishment in the village.Of course a lot of residents had carnations , other however had sheeps, other planted tomatoes cucumbers, and the summertime " Watermelons ". From November until the January they were picking the olives, this tradition became old but that is even continued today, the way of collection may change but the olives and their virgin oil were always one of the precious goods of nature. With few words these were the most important occupations from which the residents of our village were doing to have a normal life until the tourism began to make it first steps in our place. Many years passed until some people made some small business in Analipsi(hotel ,taverns) and think ,that 5 kilometers long in Hersonissos was full of visitors and life. Our village had that time 4 traditional cafe and 2 small markets. I remember a hotel that separated the village from the Anissara and it exist from then its name was Lyttos. With the byway of years there somewhere in ' 85 until ' 89 began to make their presence certain small hotels and small taverns. Thus then Analipsi was not late to become a pole of attraction of many visitors which wanted the peacefulness and the calm of our small village but also for those that wanted to be near the Harbor of Hersonissos for their nightly walks. A main economic resource was henceforth the tourism, thus always who many began in the beginning with difficulties to deal with the tourism. Important factor in this success existed the hospitality which characterizes us the Greeks from the ancients years. Thus the continuing development and growth of place is mainly because of the tourism. In our days the visitor can pass relaxed and nice holidays also to discover many beauties , to feel the hospitality but also to hear a 'Kalimera' (good morning) from the old people sitting at the cafe when he passes the streets. These historical information were written in order to give the possibility to the visitors of our place of knowing the small history of our village ,and be sure that there exist enough historical elements which we will always try to record from old people. Certainly on a computer monitor it cannot be portrayed the passion of narration and the rich dialogue in the Cretan dialect from the mouth of respectable old man, but we believe that something deserves, even on the monitor………….. The people of Analipsi! At our village ,there are about thousand people in the winder time and about 3000 at the summertime! The most of the people who live in Analipsi were born in Lasithi Plateau ! All of them have a wonderful way of life and the tradition is always inside their mind! Every season of the year there are a lot of things that the people do from past years till nowadays. The picking of the olives ,the planting of potatoes ,the making of wine & Raki and many other habits ,are still the same as the last years! If you ever visit Analipsi you will see the people sitting outside the small traditional cafe (cafenio) and some of them are sleeping there. When somebody pass from these cafe the old people will try to speak some English like "Hello" ,and they will give you their best smile if you join their company! You also may take some photos with them and see the local Cretan costume!All the residents have the tradition and the hospitality that the Greece is famous for! You will be able to meet many Greek people and talk ,and feel the "filoxenia"! Of course some of them don't speak English or German ,but they speak with the language of the heart and the eyes .You will feel a great emotion when you try to conversation with an old man or an old woman . So dear Guest , when you come to Analipsi , don't be afraid to try a glass of home made raki and say YIAMMAS inside the old house of any villager. These little lines are not enough to describe the real way of life and the culture of the People from Analipsi ,but remember ,the people are real and they don't behave like a "tourist machines". The cultural activities in our village begin from the day "Clean Monday".The meaning of the Clean Monday is the beginning of the diet without meat ,cheese ,fish ,eggs etc. , till the Easter (as our Orthodox religion says)! That day is the first of the 40 days till the Easter! Also there is an old custom for that day ,it is the famous in Greece "The flying of the Kite"! For 2-3 years have been established this feast and crowd of people are assembled in our beach where is offered abundant meet free food which is free of charge. The next activity is not other than the moving of the epitaph and the Resurrection of Christ. Big Friday the moving of the epitaph which is full decorated with carnations is the big event. The priest with the many Christians walk at the streets of the village and in the attitudes that they make in various points ,many religion people passing under the epitaph 3 times as the tradition says from past. The evening of Big Saturday crowd of people have submerged the holy temple of Analipsi, 15 minutes before the announce of the "Christos Anesti" all the people begin to walk to the beach where all the previous days the children of the village have gathered forest woods and they have made the famous "Founara". At 24:00 with the notice "Christos Anesti" the children turn on the woods "Founara", and in a few time all the people that has been there ,light candles and crack "red eggs" that have been supplied by the church.The sky get full of light and really there are unusual sensations ,created by seeing this spectacle. From Easter and afterwards the summer period is starting and many visitors are coming and enjoying their holidays in our village Of course you can enjoy the sun and the splendid beaches what they have been awarded with the ''Blue Flag'' for their services and the cleanliness.If you walk in at the coastal street the nightfall you will enjoy one from the most beautiful sunsets of Crete. The evening you can make a walk inside the village and try selected Cretan flavors at some Traditional taverns, afterwards a coffee or a drink could get you calm down. The nights are quiet and the stars are so beautiful that you will carry away until the morning light. When the day starts you can do various things apart from laying at the sun or swimming, you can walk by the river and after some time you will lead to the gorge where the rich vegetation and the clean air will revive you. You can combine the mountain with the sea and exploit with the better way the days of your holidays, remember that there is a small old village by the mountain "Agriana" and some old un peopled houses by the river(Have a look at them). The main role is taken by the lyra, the traditional three-stringed instrument made of mulberry wood, supported on the knee. The laouto (a type of lute, double strung, 4 or 6 double strings) and the tambouras (bouzouki) serve as accompanying instruments.There is often singing, too, with the singer and the lyra leading the melody alternately. The verses mostly consist of Mantinades (or Kondylies), which are 15-syllable couplets with a lot of humour and spirit. They are often created spontaneously and deal with love, nature or worldly affairs, sometimes spoofing members of the audience. There are Mantinades for every occasion, and even children practice them. The pieces of music can be drawn out for as long as desired, by repeating the second half of the stanza together with the first half of the second stanza (A1+A2-A2+B1-B1+B2). The original form of making music is met at most Cretan festivals. Even young people are mostly interested in it, in spite of the existence of pop music, and there are even complete orchestras of lyras in the cities. The lyra is an exacting instrument to play, and with hard work and talent it can bring a masterful virtuosity to it's player. Cretan traditional music is very complex due to the fact that many civilizations, at various periods of time, have intruded and inhabited the island: Venetians, Saracens, Turks...Moreover, after 330 B.C. Greek civilization followed two trends, one following Alexander the Great (in the East) and another following the Roman trends (in the West). Ook al klop je /s nachts op hun deur, als ze je ergens mee kunnen helpen zullen ze het zeker niet laten. Via Paul kan ook voordelig een auto worden gehuurd. Het zijn niet de nieuwste modellen, maar je zal onderweg ook niet met pech komen te staan! Zoals in de andere reactie aangegeven, de hoger gelegen appartementen bieden een fraaier uitzicht. Het zwembad wat ze hebben is lekker, om na een dagje strand van te genieten. Maar wat verblijf je nu qua tijd in/om je appartement? De meeste tijd breng je toch elders door. Op nog geen 5 minuten lopen een supermarkt. Verder zijn er in Koutouloufari genoeg restaurantjes en barretjes om /s avonds door te brengen. Je hoeft dan niet naar Chersonisoss, waar je rond middernacht bijna alleen maar lallende dronkelappen tegenkomt. Kortom, een absolute aanrader!! Het beste zijn de hooggelegen appartementen omdat die een beter uitzicht hebben. De ligging was zeer rustig maar je moet wel een stijle weg omhoog om bij het appartement te komen.
